The main one being an ego. While confidence in your ability is an essential part of winning, playing to satisfy a selfish desire is not. You can only earn so much “stuff” at a poker table, and you can not spend if someone plays to the ego, or because they had lifted the house for the night, fine by me.

And people often have several reasons to play. If you play to win, what matters is money, not waste money, put money at risk in ways mathematically sound, gear your game to end up with more money than you started with. It can only distract you or hurt you. Different people play Online Poker for different reasons. Others might think that there is not much here really sink your teeth into fair game correctly and win. Time spent accumulating ego strokes should have been devoted to accumulate chips that can be spent. Ego motivations lead to things like people playing too high for their bankroll, playing too long sessions when losing, getting into purely macho steal blind or blind-defending confrontation with the players and customize specific actions of opponents.
